All it takes is a chord

Sometimes all it takes to trigger a new composition is a single chord, something I experienced myself this week. I wasn’t intending to write something new; in fact, I was committed to all sorts of other tasks but, you know, once you get started …

Anyway, I was reading one of the guitar magazines that comes with my Apple News subscription and I turned to the section in which they talk about technique. They had a feature on chords that make use of the top string as a sort of drone. The first was a B major with an open E string:

B major with an added 11th (played as an open E)

That got me started and before I knew it I had a sequence of three chords with the open E: B B7 G#m moving to a G. And then the rest just came naturally.

Instruments used on this track:
Classical guitar: Evolution Modern Nylon from Orange Tree
Electric guitar: Session Guitarist Electric Vintage from Native Instruments
Strings: Symphony Essentials String Ensemble from Native Instruments
Rhythmic effect: Arkhis from Native Instruments

So, thanks to the author of the article on guitar technique. You got something started and that’s sometimes the hardest part.
